My name is Michelle Makelbust, and I am a wife, mother and dog lover living in rural Iowa. My love of words started early and led to a long career in television, sales, and marketing. Last year, with the unbelievable support of my husband, I decided to step away from the desk jobs and start a career as a freelancer. While researching options, I came across proofreading. It seemed right up my alley as a self-proclaimed member of the grammar police. I have since completed the course Transcript Proofreading: Theory and Practice where I received specialized training in transcript proofreading. I love the challenge of punctuating the spoken word. It’s easy to spot misspellings on a newscast, but the subtle nuances of the spoken word call for a different set of rules and a special knowledge of the English language. Court reporters have a tough job. I want to make it easier by ensuring clean, error-free transcripts every time.
I have a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism from Iowa State University. I was born and raised in Iowa where I currently live with my husband and our two daughters. When I’m not working, I enjoy hiking, archery and lazy days at the park with my family. I look forward to working with you to help you find more time in your life for the things that really matter.
